About Pangea Gifted Program at Sunset

Pangea Gifted Program

Building on its strong tradition of academic excellence, Sunset Elementary offers the opportunity for more in-depth, advanced learning experiences for academically advanced students through its math and science-focused “Pangea” gifted program.  Currently, approximately 310 students in grades 1-5 take part in the school’s Pangea program, where they pursue individualized programs of study focused on math and science strands agreed upon by parents and teachers.  Six teachers are responsible for delivering this instruction. Students are grouped by grade level, and attend gifted classed for 1 ½ hours per day, taking part in a variety of investigations that integrate mathematics and science, and that emphasize hands-on inquiry, group activity, and project-based learning.  Pangea teachers identify themes that reflect the approved curriculum and meet Sunshine State Standards while providing students with the opportunity to develop critical thinking, creativity, initiative in the pursuit of knowledge, decision-making and leadership skills, advanced research and problem-solving skills, and strong communication skills.
